Originally, this book and its predecessor were called a "Duology" within the overall series, and in that sense, this book provides a satisfying conclusion to that two-book storyline (that I still feel could have been condensed into one book, even just taking these two books as is and combining them to form a 600 ish page book). It also does a good job of setting up the next book via a particular unresolved thread that leads to a blatant cliffhanger - so blatant that the author tags a note just a couple of lines later swearing that the story will continue. (As those of us reading years later already know.) Overall a great continuation to the series, and I'm looking forward to diving into the next book momentarily.Product details

I was so glad to read these 5 books. The continuing story was terrific. The characters were very well drawn and remained true to their nature throughout all 5 books. The technology was very interesting, a little scarey, but was fascinating and felt all too real. I look forward to the next book in the series. Thank you for the many hours of pleasure.

Dear Mr. Bard. Thank you so much for some of the best books I have read in my entire life (and I have read a LOT of books in my 69 years). However, I just finished Ephemeral thinking this would finish with 'happy ever after' (this was a DUOlogy, after all). Instead, I find the world going to Hell in a handbasket! PLEASE tell me there are going to be more books. I read your Brainrush series in just a few days, and loved every minute of it, even though I don't particularly like thrillers. Or heavy battle scenes.

I have just finished reading the series that this author has written thus far, and can't wait until the sixth book is released. What an amazing story Richard has weaved. So action packed it can take your breath away, yet so emotional I found myself with tears in my eyes. If you're thinking about reading the Brainrush series, just do it!
Oh my gosh these books will have you on the edge of your seat. I am guessing there will be another book in the series, I need to know what happens next. I purchased these two books to read on vacation and made the mistake of just peeking at the first couple of pages. I couldn't put them down and subsequently read both of them before I even got to the airport ! Exciting, horrifying, tear jerking and breath taking action. You feel like family and part of the team and almost can't read the words fast enough. I read the Brainrush series last year and wholeheartedly recommend this author and his works.
I have read all 5 books and they were pretty good. However, it is the same story told 5 times. In most of the instances I found them to be pretty contrived and that the hero's appear to be very brave but quite stupid. The fourth in the series was the best in my opinion and I enjoyed it the most of all. One of the things that I find quite dishonest is to use cliff hangers so you feel compelled to buy the next book. I was disappointed that this author resorted to that tact.
This series thoroughly captivated my imagination. The author has woven an amazing tale of fascinating characters interspersed with high tech gadgetry use. The paradox of good versus evil in situations where the only chance of survival entails killing the bad guys is woven throughout the series. This series of books had it all as the story line and characters are involved in romance, friendship, action, high tech gadgetry, politics and determining a moral compass.
I look forward with excitement and a little bit of sadness to the publication of the final book. Following Jake and the others throughout their adventures has been an amazing read. Looking forward to more from this author.
A very good read--some is written in first person and some in third person. I liked that we learned more about the child (first person parts). It is hard to maintain interest and energy when you get into the 3rd, 4th and 5th books in a series, but Mr. Bard does it. The only part I disliked was the end--now I have to wait for the next book to see what happens. Write quickly, Mr. Bard! The expanding group of characters also adds interest. Definitely a series worth reading!
