As an author, I generally read one business book per week. I had the good fortune to meet Dan a few weeks ago for coffee and decided to read his book today. I highly recommend it for entrepreneurs at any stage of venture ... and for sales professionals at any stage of their career. Why? It’s different from most the the self-help and motivational genre. Yes, it’s inspirational but the greatest value is the way Dan addresses the things that hold people back from success. In one of my books I address the Head Trash people build up from childhood. Dan’s book provides the practical and motivational perspectives needed to puts action and legs to your behaviors. As Dan states, fear is the source of mediocrity and real success requires that you stop trying to look and act like everyone else. Stop wasting time on things that just don’t matter and focus on those that DO matter.

I read a lot of motivational, self-help books. This one stands out as my favorite. Using inspiring stories along the way, with interesting anecdotes keeping it fresh, Dan tackles the issues of our success with gritty, in your face advice.
Unlike most "How To" success books, this one reaches into the readers heart and (may) redefine your definition of the word 'Success'.
I usually delete titles from my kindle as soon as I finish reading them, but this one stays. I will return to it's pages often for a boost of inspiration when needed.
Wow, what a refreshing book! It refers to the best from popular self help theories, shines the light of truth on them using real world examples from history, and applies them as a mirror for the reader to confront their real self.
Not a book for the faint hearted, but yes for those seeking to wake up from mediocrity, turn their backs on comfort, and accept that sacrifices and effort are the true path forward.
What blew me away most was the chapter on Love. Very wise, very confronting. Will never be the same after the truths made obvious in that chapter. Am the better for it.
Buy it, read it, and keep it nearby because you can read it more than once. When you get that feeling that things are stacking up against you, the weight on your shoulders is just too much - open this book and read any chapter. Filled with artful stories of people that have overcome the challenges thrown in their way, Waldschmidt lays it out there in all it's glory. If you've read it more than once, give it to a friend who might need its message during a challenging time. It will be the best gift you can give.
I think this book is absolutely amazing because it focuses on the INNER you. It doesn't sell you a bunch of lies about what you need to do all in a few days to be successful right now. Edgy Conversations let you know that success isn't easy and it doesn't come over night, and that any ordinary person can do extraordinary things. Edgy Conversations COVERS THE MINDSET as well as the qualities that a person will possess if he/she really wants to become successful. Another thing that I really like about this book is the inspirational stories through out each section. Mindset is the most important thing to success of any kind. This book covers that, and more.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to focus on the mindset and qualities necessary for success. Or to people who aren't chasing success for the sake of having money, but to become the best version of themselves. I usually read books this good more than once. I look forward to reading it again later in life.

I have purchased (and actually read and listened to) dozens of business and success books, tapes and CD's over the years and found them all of minimal help in the real world of business and success. When I bought your book and started to read it, I was completely astonished that someone was finally telling it like it really is in ways I had not considered. Then I took the audit, scored horribly, and read the analysis. It was very acurate in content and has facilitated a positive change in my attitude. I'm sure I will read this book many times before it hits the shelf. Thank you!
I thought that the motivational essays were pretty good. The book was super heavy on sports and historical metaphors. The problem is that you have a million choices of motivational books and didn't see what made this special. It was a good reminder to keep going when the going gets tough and to be positive when other lesser men would be negative but you can find that anywhere. Save your pennies and precious time for either the best of the best or for a book that teaches you some new techniques to motivate yourself when things are difficult.
This book followed the classic self-help recipe. Start with a marketable catch-phrase, gather a selection of short stories, knit those stories together with text that references the catch-phrase, garnish with lists and voila.
